Bateshwar Rural Municipality, Dhanusha – A significant step towards empowering young girls in Bateshwar Rural Municipality took place recently with a comprehensive Training of Trainers (TOT) session focused on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) conducted by Relative Nepal. Held for secondary school girls, the workshop saw the active participation of 30 students.
The session, facilitated by two experienced female health professionals from local health posts, spanned several days and covered essential topics. On the first day, discussions included puberty changes, sexual reproductive health and rights, and safe sexual behavior. Key areas such as infection prevention, gender and sexuality, and gender-based violence were addressed, with practical advice on taking steps against violence and dispelling common misconceptions.
The second day concentrated on menstruation, including menstrual cycle education, menstrual health and hygiene, and the use of menstrual products. Participants learned about maintaining health during menstruation and the importance of hygiene practices.
The final three days focused on the effects of child marriage, teenage motherhood, and the associated challenges. The training was supplemented with practical sessions, interactive discussions, and essential resources.
To support the participants, the program included breakfast, lunch, and drinks, along with stationery. Each participant received a certificate upon completion, presented by local ward representatives including the chairman and secretary.
This initiative not only provided crucial knowledge but also aimed to foster a supportive environment for young girls in Bateshwar, empowering them to make informed decisions about their health and future.
